My very first trailrun
Up 'till last year I had never run a half marathon nor a trail-run. But somewhere in november 2015 I saw an article in running.be magazine talking about "Crêtes de Spa", a 21K trailrun in Spa, and immediately I felt like I wanted to run this trail.
And so I did!
A few minutes after reading the add in that magazine, I had my ticket in my hands and was ready to start training towards this event!
Dog-poop everywhere ... !
Even though I went of with a false-start, I did absolutely enjoy the challenge!
Fun fact ... I decided it would be fun to bring my dog (Ziko) with me during my run. But a few seconds after kick-off he decided it was time to take a shit! I was already kinda embarrassed since everybody passed us while I was cleaning up my lovely dog's shit.
Little did I know that in the next 5 to 10 minutes, 3 more shits would follow.
After cleaning up all 4 of them .. I decided it was enough! So while sprinting to get back to the group (since I had fallen behind and the horses who closed the entire group had to wait for me, can you imaging how annoyed I was?) I started taking my phone out to call my boyfriend and to make sure he would be waiting for me at the first stop to take over Ziko since I had had quite enough shit for one day!
Afterwards, it only went better and better and I could really enjoy the last 16K of my race!
What I love about trail-running?
After this first trailrun, I simply fell in love with it and it felt like more so this year Crêtes de Spa is my very first running-event on my planning and I'm absolutely looking forward to it!
Why do I love it that much? There are just so many reasons I can think of but I'll keep it with my top-5-reasons why you should try a trailrun at least once:
(and no, it doesn't have to be one of 21K ☺ )
But you can get in the zone because the trail doesn't have traffic lights, cars, ... and other stuff you have to watch out for. This makes it easier to get in the zone & to really enjoy your free-run!
Will I see you at the start of this year's Crêtes de Spa?
With only a good two weeks left, I'm already looking forward to my second ever trail-run in Spa. And honestly, I'm even more excited because naturally I would love to improve my time with at least a few minutes ... oh well, we'll see!
First and foremost, I'll take some extra time to enjoy the beautiful nature around me!
March 25th is D-day! Will I see you at the start?
